How is Yoga Therapy Different than Going to a Class?

Going to a yoga class is a wonderful experience where you follow a sequence generally designed for a group. You may get some personal attention but generally follow along and ask questions later. I am a yoga teacher also!

Yoga therapy, however, starts with an individualized assessment and is followed by a customized practice based on your symptoms (physical, mental/emotional, breathing), health issues, and desired outcomes/goals. You will be given a home practice and guidance for a period of time to facilitate your progress and healing. A home practice will include a variety of yogic tools and an understanding of how to apply yoga philosophy to daily living.

One to one yoga therapy can prepare you for group classes and help you discover what type of class is right for you. Yoga therapy will support you in self discovery and self healing with a “guide on the side.” Read more in What to Expect During a Session.

A certified yoga therapist has 1,000 hours or more of study and case work validated by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), a strict code of ethics and scope of work.
